Google has updated Gooogle Maps which adds the capability to suggest faster routes to drives based on real-time traffic conditions.

It shows estimated travel times and uses red,green and yellow colors to show the traffic in that particular time. In addition, you can see and generate shorter routes to your destination.

The routing algorithms will also apply our knowledge of current and historical traffic to select the fastest route from those alternates. Navigation will automatically guide you along the best route given the current traffic conditions.

It will be available in North America and Europe where the new features (navigation and real-time traffic date) are available.
